Intimate Voices from the First World War - Sarah Wallis, Svetlana Palmer This is a tremendous book, one of the first I've read which encapsulated the First World War experience for military personel and civilians (inclusive of children, such as Yves Congar, a young boy who kept a pictorial diary of his experiences of living under German occupation in the town of Sedan, France) alike.

I recommend this book to anyone with an interest in how people under the pressures and chaos of wartime endure and get on with living.
